Know which filter you are editing
| Filter | What it controls | Common mistake |
|---|---|---|
| Loot filter | Which ground drops remain visible | Hiding an item and expecting highlight rules to restore it |
| Highlight filter | Outline and minimap emphasis for visible drops | Treating a missing highlight as a missing drop |
| Tarethiel Market filter | Which trade listings match a search | Applying market controls to ground loot |
Season 10 officially reworked Tarethiel Market filters. The loot and highlight setup is separate from that market change.
Import a loot filter
- 01Press Escape and open the filter interface from the current game menu.
- 02Choose the loot Filter control, then select Import.
- 03Paste the filter data itself—not a web link, video description or surrounding instructions.
- 04Save the imported preset and select it for the current character.
- 05Test in a low-risk area with broad visibility before using the filter in a fast farming route.
Back up a working filter on Windows
A current Season 10 community guide places filter files under `%LOCALAPPDATA%\Hero_Siege\hs2saves` and describes names beginning with `lootfilter_`. Copy the matching file to a separate backup folder before a major edit. The stored data may not be human-readable in a text editor; use the in-game export/import flow for normal editing.
This path is community-documented and can change. Do not delete the entire save folder when troubleshooting a filter.
Start broad, then tighten by build
| Build need | Keep visible first | Tighten later |
|---|---|---|
| Attack build | Compatible weapons, attack scaling, sustain and defenses | Dead weapon types and weak conflicting rolls |
| Caster build | +Skills, matching skill damage, cast rate, mana and defenses | Attack-only affixes that do not support the cast |
| Summoner build | Summon tags, +Skills, sustain and defenses | Stats that do not affect the summons or player plan |
| Any new character | Life, resistances, movement, useful socketables and upgrades | Low-value clutter only after the route is stable |
If an item disappeared or will not highlight
- 01Temporarily switch to a broad preset and confirm the drop appears.
- 02Check the loot filter first; a hidden item cannot be rescued by a highlight rule.
- 03Match the exact affix family instead of relying on similar words such as attack damage and skill damage.
- 04Confirm the preset is selected for the current character and season.
- 05Restore the backup if a large edit cannot be isolated safely.
Questions players ask
How do I import a Hero Siege loot filter?
Open the filter interface from the Escape menu, choose Filter, select Import, paste the actual filter data and save the preset.
Why is my highlight filter not working?
First confirm the loot filter has not hidden the item. Then match the exact affix family; similarly named attack and skill modifiers are not interchangeable.
Does the market filter control ground drops?
No. Tarethiel Market filtering, ground-loot visibility and drop highlighting are separate systems.
